Custom assistant directors and senior officers plead not guilty to bribe charge

SHAH ALAM: Seven assistant directors and senior Customs department officers pleaded not guilty on a total of 98 counts of bribe ranging from RM1000 to RM 298,000 at the Sessions Court here, early this morning.

The officers were charged for corrupt transactions ranging in different monthly amounts on failure to take action under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967 for dutiable liquor items.

They were charged under Section 16 a (A) and Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 punishable under Section 24 (1) of the same act.

Sessions Court judge Datuk Noradidah Ahmad fixed bail between RM5000 to RM40,000 and ordered all seven officers to surrender their passports to the court pending disposal of the case.

Noradidah fixed Oct 30 for the case mention pending handing over of documents.
