Tracie foiled by injury again

DREAMS of competing at the Artistic Gymnastic World Championships will have to wait for Tracie Ang who is likely to undergo surgery on her back.

The 21-year-old, who missed the previous two editions due to injury as well, was looking forward to participate in this year’s world meet in Nanning, China on Oct 3-12.

“It looks like I will have to wait before participating in my first world championships.

“I was injured and could not participate in the previous two editions and it’s really disappointing to know that it’s because of my condition and body.

“There is just no point in competing if I am not fit, and that is really sad,” said Tracie, who will be going for an arthrogram scan tomorrow.

The Malacca-born admitted that her injury got worse after the Glasgow Commonwealth Games last month.

An old hip problem has also resurfaced, causing major discomfort.

“I was injured before the Commonwealth Games but managed to recover in time to compete.

“It was a little too soon though and I aggravated my back.

“This hip problem has also been there but it’s worse now.

“If I decide to go for surgery, I may be out for another three months.”

The Malaysian Gymnastic Federation (MGF) have named Tan Ing Yueh and Farah Ann Abdul Hadi for the World Championships.

Farah is currently in Incheon, South Korea for the Asian Games. By Fabian Peter
