TELEKOMUNIKASI Indonesia (Telkom), Indonesia’s largest telcommunications company, will acquire Contact Centres Australia, a call centre operator, through its subsidiary Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin), as part of its overseas expansion efforts.
Telkom is set to acquire the call centre company in its entirety for between US$10 million and US$12 million (RM32.4 million and RM38.9 million), according to Telkom finance director Honesti Basyir.
“We have signed a conditional sales and purchase agreement. The next step is the sales and purchase agreement,” he said on the sidelines of the Investors Summit last Wednesday, here.
Contact Centres Australia is among the five foreign companies Telkom is seeking to acquire through Telin, Honesti added.
The planned acquisition will be internally funded by Telkom.
Honesti declined to disclose the estimated value of the planned acquisition or the names of the other four companies.
“We are still going through the due diligence process for the other four companies.”
Telkom has been working to ramp up its presence in the global market, undertaking projects such as a submarine cable project linking Indonesia to the United States.
The company also seeks to acquire ownership of a local tower provider by the first quarter of next year, according to Honesti.
“One of our priorities is towers. We want to own the biggest tower provider in Indonesia.”
He declined to provide further details about the purchase.
Telkom previously announced it has set aside US$2 billion for this year’s capital expenditure, with some US$1.2 billion spent by Telkomsel, its cellular service arm.
Honesti added that funds for the planned acquisition of the local tower provider will be outside of this year’s capital expenditure.
Aside from the acquisition plans, he said Telkom is planning to release 20 per cent of its shares in Telkomsigma, Telkom’s newly-formed data centre and information technology unit.
“There is a plan, but it doesn’t have to be through an initial public offering. We are still talking more about it.”
Telkom has also been working to sell its tower operator unit Daya Mitra Telekomunikasi, also known as Mitratel, by the end of the year.
