Dr M: Let it be a lesson to Pas

PUTRAJAYA: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Pas should take heed of PKR’s and DAP’s apparent sidelining of the party after both allies’ insistence on naming only one candidate for the Selangor menteri besar post.

He said the crisis faced by the opposition pact in leaving Pas out of the decision-making process should serve as a lesson to the party as this was the consequence of its collaboration with PKR de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“This is what happens when you work with Anwar. Whoever works with him will face problems as he likes to divide.

“He will even divide (his own) supporters. We only need to look at his (Anwar’s) history... When he was in Umno, he brought the same problems that Pakatan is facing. So this should be a lesson to Pas,” he said here yesterday.

Dr Mahathir’s reply was in response to a question on Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s criticism of PKR on the closing day of the Pas’ 60th muktamar (assembly) in Batu Pahat, Johor, on Saturday.

Hadi was among the party’s top leaders to hint that he was prepared for Pas to be expelled from Pakatan for upholding its Islamic credentials.

Hadi also hinted that Pas might accept the menteri besar post if one of its assemblymen was chosen by the sultan.
