KOTA KINABALU: The proposed National Harmony Bill is not likely to be replacing the Sedition Act 1948, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri.
"The Harmony Bill may not be appropriate as it is more for promoting unity via activities and does not have the element of punishment.
On whether charges should be dropped for pending cases while waiting for the new bill to be tabled, Nancy said it was up to the Attorney General's Chamber to decide.
Nancy was speaking at the "Rights and Issues of Women and Children" seminar here.
She also said there was nothing wrong with the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, (SOSMA) in replacing Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA) but stressed that enforcers need time to adjust and improve on the execution.
