InvestKL aims to attract 100 MNCs to Greater Kuala Lumpur by 2020

KUALA LUMPUR: InvestKL is on track to attract 100 of the world’s largest multinational corporations (MNCs) to set up their regional headquarters in Greater Kuala Lumpur by 2020. Its Chief Executive Officer, Zainal Amanshah, said InvestKL has so far brought in 38 MNCs, along with 6,385 highly-skilled jobs and investments of RM639.44 million.

“The investments from foreign companies are important to create jobs for the locals, as they will generate more income to the country,” he told reporters before the start of Mayor’s Media Tour of Kuala Lumpur here today.

InvestKL is a government entity under the purview of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Ministry of Federal Territories and the Performance Management and Delivery Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department.

Its focus is to attract MNCs to set up their regional businesses, innovation and talent hubs in Greater Kuala Lumpur and strategically grow their businesses in Asia.

Meanwhile, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib, said the Greater KL National Key Economic Area has met 98 per cent of its Key Performance Index targets in 2013.

He said the harsh impact of urban development through ‘green’ projects would attract investments into the city to create new high-value jobs while enhancing public infrastructure.

“This year, Kuala Lumpur City Hall aims to plant around 30,000 trees in the city. A total of over 120,000 trees have been planted by both the private and public sectors since 2011,” he said during the tour. – Bernama
