HIGH-POWERED MEETINGS: Najib targets global fund managers with US$9tril o WORLD MARKETS f assets under their care

MALAYSIA is due to hold a series of

high-level meetings with 15 global

fund managers in New York tomorrow in a bid to woo them to invest here.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib

Razak will lead a delegation of key

financial and capital market drivers

to meet the fund managers, who have nearly US$9 trillion (RM29.3 trillion)

worth of assets under their care.

“The high-powered meetings are expected to see Najib holding dialogues with 15 United States-based global fund managers with Emerging Market or Asia mandates, collectively representing US$8.957 trillion in assets under management, to discuss the

path Malaysia is charting, policies that have been put in place and also those that will be implemented by the government,” said a source familiar with the matter.

“This is a promotion of the nation and is meant to play up the positive uptrend economic numbers. The prime minister will be addressing all the concerns and questions that the fund managers have, to build their confidence in our country,” the source added.

The meetings are part of the Invest

Malaysia New York banner, following the success of Invest Malaysia London roadshow on September 1-2.

Invest Malaysia New York is organised by Bursa Malaysia, Credit Suisse and Maybank Kim Eng. This will be the third of four in the Invest Malaysia roadshow series for this year, which will culminate in Hong

Kong next month.

A Bursa Malaysia spokesperson said

this will be the third time Najib is meeting US-based fund managers to promote the country as an investment destination. The first was in 2011, followed by one last year.

She said during the meeting, no particular companies will represent Invest Malaysia New York as the agenda is national.

Najib’s team will include Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Tajuddin Atan and Malayan Banking Bhd group president and

chief executive officer Datuk Farid Alias.
