UPSR leak: First independent committee meeting commences

PUTRAJAYA: Reproducing and spreading the UPSR question papers via any platform is an offence under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

The independent committee to review the handling of public examinations management chairman Tun Zaki Azmi said anyone who found to reproduce the questions was liable.

He said: "If one is found to distribute it and even though it is via Whatsapp, an offence has already been committed."

He warned the public from redistributing the leaked questions as it is a serious offence under the OSA and many were unaware of the offence that they were committing.

Zaki also said the independent committee would be meeting twice in a week to review and study the standard operating procedures (SOP) in handling public examinations in the country.

"The government has given us a three-month deadline to come up with a report detailing our recommendations to improve and strengthen the SOP," he added after chairing the committee's first meeting here today.

The independent committee was established following the leaks of both Science and English papers in the public examination.

Following the two leaked papers, it was later reported that Mathematics 1 and Tamil Language papers were also leaked.

The leakages have affected approximately 470,000 primary six pupils who sat for the examination.

The re-sit for Science and English was rescheduled to Sept 30, while Mathematics 1 and Tamil Language papers were set for October 9.
