29 deaf pupils take it all in their stride

ALOR STAR: Despite their condition and the anxiety of having to resit the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), 29 deaf pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas took it in their stride yesterday.

Headmaster Jafri Johan Zainudin said although some of the pupils felt the pressure, they were calm and confident as they sat the Science and English papers.

He said the teachers did their best to motivate and help the pupils to do well in both papers.

“It may be a daunting task, but the teachers here managed to convince the pupils to do well in both papers.

“We conducted extra classes after school hours and had them practise on past year papers. We hope they can perform better this time.”

Meanwhile, candidate Mohd Akmal Ekhwan Safari from Sekolah Kebangsaan Tunku Abdul Halim said it was easier this time round for the English paper.

“I found the paper slightly easier, but not the Science paper as Part 1 was a bit difficult,”” he said.

His mother, Norliza Abu Bakar said it had been a stressful time since the announcement of the resit.

“He was disturbed upon learning the news, but fortunately, he was fine after we motivated him.

“I am so relieved he was more cheerful after sitting the two papers today,” said the 41-year-old housewife.

Candidate Kamarul Erman Hafiz said he was glad that it was over and the papers were not as tough as he had expected.
