ALOR STAR: About 800 well-wishers turned up at a charity dinner organised by the state Islamic Women Welfare Board (LKPI), to raise funds for the non-governmental organisation at Seri Mentaloon, here, recently.
The dinner was held in conjunction with the birthday of Kedah Regency Council member Tunku Panglima Besar Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Shafinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, who is also the national LKPI vice-president.
Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir’s wife Tok Puan Norzieta Zakaria, State Secretary Datuk Mohd Puat Mohd Ali, state Women and Family Development Committee chairman Datuk Suraya Yaacob and state LKPI chairman Datuk Daharah Ismail.
Funds raised will be used to support LKPI’s activities, which include donations to the families of the December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami victims in Kuala Muda district by the end of this month, followed by an educational tour for orphans in the state. By Adie Suri Zulkefli
