Azmin wants to scrutinise water agreements

SHAH ALAM: Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali urged Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Bhd (KDEB) to disclose the agreements under the state water restructuring exercise to the new state executive councillor line-up.

Azmin said the new Exco need to be in the loop of the agreements to ensure that the rights of the rakyat and the objectives of the water restructuring exercise are met.

"We need to know what the previous administration had conducted in the water restructuring process as we want to make sure that we know what our follow-up actions are.

"The water restructuring exercise was done to make sure that the people in Selangor are no longer burdened by water problems and we want to make sure of that," he said after attending the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) meeting earlier today.

"We called up KDEB to brief us on the water agreement today. We have made our stand clear, for instance in the case of Langat 2 water treatment plant, we want to make sure that the project is based on open tender and the development and operational cost do not end up burning a hole in the pocket of Selangor.

"I have made this very clear," he said.

Azmin added that he was not given a copy of the agreement signed between the state and federal government as it is subjected under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

"In the last state assembly seating, I had proposed for the agreement to be made public but the Memorandum of Understanding, head of agreement and master agreement documents were all signed without consideration of this proposal.

"Hence, I plan to write to the federal government requesting for the documents to be made public and this will allow us to give full disclosuer to the rakyat," he said.
