Beyond CPO

FELDA Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV), which has a multimodal transport operator (MTO) licence, wants to ramp up its transport and logistics business to complement its plantation business.

The MTO licence allows FGV to tranport not only crude palm oil (CPO) and related products, but also consignments like construction materials, vehicles and locomotive parts.

FGV is one of 30 companies nationwide to hold the licence.

Its transport, logistics, marketing and others (TLMO) cluster head Datuk Khairil Anuar Aziz said the company has a fleet of 400 trucks and 450 drivers with 40 million kilometres of mileage a year between them.

“We don’t want to depend on just FGV products. We want to expand the business to include external cargoes such as automobiles, defence systems, machineries and security, engineering, energy, oil and gas, and healthcare products.

“In fact, FGV is already ferrying locomotive parts for the Mass Rapid Transit project to Port Klang via its unit, Felda Transport,” Khairil said recently.

He said in Johor, FGV wants to play the main role in the oil and gas sector, riding on the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development project in Pengerang.

He said Felda Transport, which transports 60 per cent of liquid bulk such

as CPO and refined palm kernel, and 40 per cent dry cargo, will embark on mergers and acquisitions to fasttrack

growth by buying other transport companies.

He said FGV will look to expand overseas as well.

It sees great opportunities transporting palm oil and oil and gas products in Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand.

The firm is also looking at bonded warehouses to boost income.

“We are looking beyond borders and at countries where we have operations to use them as our platform to go global,” Khairil added.
