CIDB to bid for Indian highway projects

NEW DELHI: The Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia (CIDB) has offered to bid for five highway projects costing about US$1.45 billion (RM4.73 billion) based on the public-private partnership (PPP) mode, The Times of India reported.

“It’s a welcome sign since the government’s outgo will be reduced if we get bidders on the PPP mode,” said Road Transport Secretary Vijay Chhibber.

“If we go for the engineering, procurement and construction mode, we have to bear 100 per cent of the cost.”

He confirmed that the government had accepted CIDB’s proposal.

Chhibber said National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) would be responsible for initiating bids for two of the highway projects while his ministry would invite bids for the rest.

The NHAI will re-invite bids on a build, operate and transfer mode
