Residents worry about bridge

KUALA LUMPUR: THE developer of a housing project opposite Jalan Pandan Indah 8, Pandan Indah here has submitted an infrastructure plan to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).

The developer was instructed by the council to submit the plan and carry out remedial works after they were issued with a stop-work order on Aug 26.

MPAJ public relations officer Norhayati Ahmad said the developer has to complete basic infrastructure works at the site.

“Among such works are the implementation of silt traps, drainage works, heavy-duty interlocking pavers and repair works for the Sungai Kerayong wall. Our officers visited the site on Sept 9 and found that the developer was carrying out remedial work. It has to be completed before the stop-work order could be lifted,”
said Hayati.

“The stop-work order was issued after we found erosion at the site.”

She said the developer has submitted a plan for the construction of an access road to the development site.

She said MPAJ had approved the planning permission in March and the earthworks and infrastructure plan had been approved in July.

While lorries from the construction site are no longer carrying construction materials through the residential area, residents are concerned about the building of a bridge measuring 15m wide to access the site from Jalan Pandan Indah 8, connecting to the site which is in front of their houses.

A resident, K. Ranganathan, 33, said the bridge was now 80 per cent completed.

“Sungai Kerayong in front of our house is small and we worry that in case of a downpour, it would overflow and cause flash floods.”

Ranganathan also raised concerns about the number of cars entering and exiting the development site that would contribute to traffic congestion in future.

It was reported on Aug 27 that residents of Jalan Pandan Indah 8 had urged MPAJ to review an approved housing development of three blocks of three-storey townhouses located across Sungai Kerayong in front of their houses.

They said MPAJ should not have approved it as the developer did not provide an alternative road for its lorries to transport construction materials to the site.
