CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Some 150 people attended the Empower ECER Skills and Training Programme organised by the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC).
A seminar themed “Cultivating Entrepreneurial Spirit” was held to introduce budding entrepreneurs to various financial assistance schemes and mechanisms available for them.
They were also given tips on managing daily operations, how to enhance business proficiency, skill sets and profitability.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, who is also Cameron Highlands member of parliament launched the programme.
ECERDC chief executive officer Datuk Jebasingam Issace John said the programme was to inspire participants to start their own business by taking advantage of the financial assistance schemes and mechanisms made available by the government under the SEED initiative, which is the Secretariat for Empowerment of Indian Entrepreneurs.
“We hope participants would be motivated to do well in their business ventures,” said Issace.
“There are ample opportunities for hardworking entrepreneurs to succeed in and they can leverage on the financial assistance provided by the government for the Indian community. All they need is the will to succeed coupled with hard work and dedication.”
Issace said Empower ECER and SEED programmes were in line with the government’s Economic Transformation Programme to ensure all Malaysians had an opportunity to improve their livelihood in line with the nation’s goal to become a high income nation by 2020. By Sylvia Looi
