Flexible consideration needed to achieve Malaysia-EU FTA, says PM

MILAN: Flexible consideration between Malaysia and the European Union (UN) is needed to achieve the desired agreement for the Malaysia-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the eight rounds of negotiations held previously had not yielded any results due to issues which arised beyond trade and investments.

He said that these issues had a high degree of sensitivity in Malaysia.

“We expect the process to take some time,” he told Malaysian media before departing for home on Friday night after attending the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit held at the Milano Congressi Conference Centre here.

Negotiations of the Malaysia-EU FTA started in 2010 and was supposed to have been completed by 2012.
