Run kicks off Capam conference

PUTRAJAYA: An international run was held here yesterday to coincide with the ongoing 2014 biennial conference of the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (Capam) that has drawn 1,500 delegates from 53 countries.

Some 3,200 people from 12 countries took part in the Capam International Run 2014, which offers RM50,800 in prize money, said Ahmad Faedzal Md Ramli, secretary-general of the Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (Maksak).

The 5km Fun Run category turned out to be a fun family affair, with parents taking part with their children and bringing babies along
in strollers. Some chose to be creative by running in full corporate attire.

The event was flagged off by Chief Secretary to the Government and new Capam president Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, and Capam chief executive officer Gay Hamilton.

As for the winners, it was an all-Kenyan affair in the main events.

“Forty per cent of the runners were civil servants working in Putrajaya. They wanted to show their support as Malaysia is hosting the Capam conference for the second time after 1998,” said Faedzal.

The run was organised by Maksak in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Ministry.

The Capam conference is organised in collaboration with the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit and Commonwealth Secretariat, and themed “Public Service Transformation: A New Conversation”.

In conjunction with the conference, an inaugural Commonwealth Media Forum will be held tomorrow, co-hosted by the Office of the Chief Secretary to the Government and Bernama, the Malaysian National News Agency. Bernama
