Bukit Beruntung landslide: Teratai residents told to remain calm

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor state government is appealing for Teratai Apartment residents in Bukit Beruntung to remain patient after a landslide saw residents being evacuated.

In a media statement, local council, town planning and housing executive councilor, Iskandar Abdul Samad said that the relocation was in the interest of residents' safety.

“As of now, over 500 residents have been temporarily moved to three makeshift shelters which are Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Bunga Raya 1, Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Bunga Raya 2 and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Taman Bunga Raya in Bukit Beruntung.”

He said that the state government will take care of the affected residents by supplying food and blankets.

“Affected residents are strongly advised not to return to their homes in the meantime. Should they wish to return to get their belongings, they are to inform the local authorities first.”

Residents who are elderly, sick or have special needs children under their care are also advised to inform the local authorities so that they can take appropriate action.

Iskandar said that soil movements occurred twice earlier this morning and if it continues, it will affect the safety of blocks K and L, which may already be affected.

The landslide is being investigated by the Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) and the Public Works Department (PWD).

“The state government is working on ensuring that the affected homes are completely safe, before allowing residents to move back in.”

Iskandar also said that the state government has over 100 units at the Serendah People's Housing Project available for rent.

It was reported yesterday that some 2,000 residents of Teratai Apartment in Taman Bunga Raya, Bukit Beruntung were ordered to evacuate after a landslide occurred near their home at 11am.
