Canines make residents uneasy 50pt 1d

RESIDENTS of Taman Mutiara Rini, Skudai, here, are worried about the increasing numbers of strays lurking in their neighbourhood.

A resident, Mohamad Azein Ahmad, 35, said the strays come in packs of three to five dogs.

“We are afraid that the dogs might bite someone or chase our children,” he said.

Meanwhile, Redzuan Isa, 30, said the residents are annoyed with the dogs for scavenging through their trash bins looking for food.

“We close the bins but they get knocked down and rubbish is scattered everywhere,” he said.

Redzuan said he is sometimes awakened by the noise of strays fighting in the wee hours.

“It’s disturbing, especially at night when everyone is asleep. Sometimes their howling scares the children.”

Johor Baru Central municipal councillor for Mutiara Rini Zainab Othman said the problem with strays in Mutiara Rini neighbourhood has been highlighted to the council for immediate action.

“We have received many complaints and will be capturing the dogs to prevent further problems.”

She urged those who own dogs to spay their pets and not let them wander on their own in the neighbourhood.

“Some of the strays were abandoned by irresponsible owners,” said Zainab.
