Tough days for next of kin

KUALA LUMPUR : IT has been a challenging 100 days journey for the family of Gerakan Kota Damansara deputy Youth chief Liew Yau Chee and his wife, Lee Kiah Yeen, following their death in the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 tragedy.

Liew’s father, who wanted to be known only as Mr Liew, said their three children, aged 10, five and two, were being cared for by him and his wife.

“It’s been pretty tough for the past 100 days. The children live with us and they mention their parents’ names sometimes.

“MAS has been in contact with us regarding my son and daughter-in-law’s belongings.

“They told us they were not sure when they could retrieve the belongings but were aiming for next month or December.

“We are waiting for confirmation. We also follow the developments through the radio, television and newspapers.”

He hoped that the authorities could compensate the family financially, adding that the party responsible must be punished.

Noraini Mohd Hol, 52, cousin of Ariza Ghazalee, who was on board MH17 with her husband and four children, said the family performed tahlil prayers in Kuching last night to commemorate the 100th day since the incident.

She said friends and relatives of the family would share their memories by posting photographs and stories on Facebook.

“Time passes so quickly. I cannot believe it is already 100 days since the incident.

“Whenever I think of them, I always recite the Yassin prayers for them.”

Tambi Jiee, Ariza and their four children — Muhammad Afif, Muhammad Afzal, Marsha Azmeena and Muhammad Afruz — were on their way to Malaysia after spending three years in Kazakhstan, where Tambi had been working for a petroleum company.
