WFM to become another channel for Malaysian writers: PENA

KUBANG PASU: Activities of the Writers’ Foundation of Malaysia (WFM) will not overlap those of writers’ associations but it will be an additional channel for writers to enhance their activities via a more organised programme.

Writers’ Association of Malaysia (Pena) president Dr Mohamad Saleeh Rahamad said Pena welcomes the establishment of WFM as it will serve as a platform to unite writers of all races nationwide.

“This is because the associations only carry out activities for their own members according to district or state,” he told Bernama at the Malaysian Writers’ Summmit (SKPM 2014) at Darulaman Golf and Country Club, Jitra near here, today.

Saleeh said Pena has yet to deliberate on the WFM structure although it had been discussed informally.

“Its up to Bina Darulaman Berhad (BDB), the state government subsidiary which made the proposal, to prepare the working papers,” he said commenting on the announcement on the establishment of WFM by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir last night.

SKPM 2014 is the first ever gathering of writers, publishers representatives and activists in literature, language and culture from across the country. The three-day programme is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) of BDB and smart synergy between the Institute of Translation and Books Malaysia (ITBM), Pena and BDB. – BERNAMA
