Widow remanded for five fraud cases

KANGAR: Police have applied remand extension for the 32-year-old widow who was detained last Sunday in connection with five fraud cases involving losses amounting to RM16,500.

It was learnt that the suspect, whose remand order expired today, was released from prison in April after serving two years term for the same offence.

State police chief Datuk Zull Aznam Haron said the suspect deceived her victims, mostly women, into handing over cash as well as jewellery which was later pawned at shops in Perlis and Kedah.

He said police were applying a four-day remand extension for further investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and whipping and also liable to a fine.

Zull Aznam said this to the pressmen in a press conference after the monthly Perlis police contingent assembly at the state police contingent headquarters here today.
