Council asks developer to build proper drainage

SELAYANG: A developer who has carried out illegal clearing works in Taman Bukit Rawang Jaya 2 was found to have caused a flash flood in the area a few days ago.

Selayang Municipal Council president Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said the clearing works had caused the drains to be choked with mud.

“The traders near the site were affected by the flash flood. We have instructed the developer to build proper drainage and retention pond at the site to avoid recurrence.

“The developer has until tomorrow to do this or we will get a court order to carry out restoration works and the company will be billed for it. The estimated restoration cost is RM500,000. The developer did not obtain a development order from the council,” said Azizi during the council’s board meeting on Wednesday.

On another matter, Azizi said the council would reduce the business licence fee, which was previously increased in June.

“The state government, however, had recently decided to reduce the fee. Those who have paid the new fee would get a refund. We have issued the new bill for licence renewal to all the business owners. We will wait for the state government’s decision on the amount of the fee reduction, which will be finalised soon.”

Azizi said this year, the council had issued 17,800 bills of licence fees amounting  to RM10.1 million. Only 582 bills were paid.

“We have received appeals from a few business operators to reduce the licensing fee and we will review it.”

During the board meeting, two new councillors from PKR were sworn in. Zailah Kamaludin will be in charge of Zone 6 (Kampung Simpang Tiga, Kampung Sungai Chinchin, Kampung Gombak Utara, Kampung Orang Asli Gombak, Desa Gemilang, Taman Bukit Lela, Taman Mutiara Gombak and Kampung Sungai Pusu) and Azman Yaakob will be responsible for Zone 19 (Rawang). By Seri Nor Nadiah Koris
