Islamic studies campus wins

BANGI: THE Islamic Studies Campus of the Teacher’s Education Institute (IPG) Bandar Baru Bangi emerged as the champion in the Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) Investment Quiz Finals, recently.

The competition, which was organised for IPG category, saw the Bandar Baru Bangi institute battling with IPG Temenggung Ibrahim, Johor, and IPG Ilmu Khas, Kuala Lumpur.

Held for the sixth time, the quiz was a comprehensive educational programme which focused on the long-term benefits and methods of investing, its advantages, risk concepts and financial planning.

The quiz required teams of two to answer a series of questions related to investment and financial management.

Bandar Baru Bangi IPG was represented by Muhamad Afiq Hamizan Norizan, 22, and Muhammad Hafizu Aiman Jusoh, 23.

Afiq said this year’s competition was challenging as it introduced a new format which included a puzzle, IQ test and Sudoku.

“This is the third time I am participating after 2009 and 2011. The previous format only required us to answer questions.

“I didn’t really put high expectation for this year’s competition because the other contestants were formidable as well but luck was on my side again and I am grateful for this success,” he said.

Hafizu said: “We did a lot of homework and research for two months before the final round. I am happy that we were able to make our institute the champion for the third time. We plan to train our juniors to compete next year.”

The winner bagged RM8,000 worth of prizes, where the IPG received RM5,000 while the participants walked away with Amanah Saham Gemilang-Pendidikan units worth RM3,000 and trophies.

IPG Temenggung Ibrahim and IPG Ilmu Khas came in second and third place, respectively. The first runner-up bagged RM5,000, in which the institute received RM3,000 and the contestants received Amanah Saham Gemilang-Pendidikan units worth RM2,000.

The second runner-up won RM3,000, where the institute received RM2,000 and the contestants received Amanah Saham Gemilang-Pendidikan units worth RM1,000.

PNB chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid said the competition received participation from more than 5,700 people from 27 IPGs nationwide.

“PNB is committed to organise various programmes to increase public awareness and understanding of financial and investment aspects.

“Other education programmes include Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia, 1Malaysia Investment Seminar and PNB Smart Investment Club. We want to attract more youngsters to get involved in investment quiz to educate them on it,” he said.

Also present at the prize-giving ceremony were PNB president-cum-group chief executive Tan Sri Datuk Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman and Malaysia Teacher Education Institute rector Sulaiman Wak.
