Gear up for a festival less ordinary

KUALA LUMPUR:  Get ready to have the time of your life at the “CommFest: Sini Ada Fest” tomorrow and Sunday at Stadium Melawati Shah Alam, near here.

Organised by Kolej Poly-Tech Mara KL students, the festival promises to live up to its tagline, “Ini Bukan Fest Biasa” (This is No Ordinary Festival), with loads of fun for everyone.

Visitors will have a chance to purchase clothes, food, drinks, souvenirs and other interesting products and services from the vendors. They will also get to play exciting games and watch music performances by popular local singers as well as street buskers.

The organisers are college undergraduates in the fifth semester of a diploma in corporate communications programme.

“We are holding this festival to fulfil a course requirement to organise at least one major event that would benefit the students of our college and the general public,” said festival assistant project manager Mohd Noor Aizat Mohd Noor Suffian at a press conference held at Kolej Poly-Tech Mara KL, recently.

“As this is a communications festival, we have invited representatives from social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and boutique owners to market their products and services at the booths.

“We have two celebrities whom we have dubbed the ‘Faces of the Fest’, Izzue Islam and Yana Samsudin, who have made a name for themselves in acting and singing. There will be a special meet-and-greet session for the fans.

Noor Aizat encouraged visitors to also grab the opportunity to meet Malaysian celebrities such as Neelofa, Alyah, Yatt Hamzah, Diana Amir, Sharifah Sakinah, Rita Rudaini, Lisdawati, Emelda Rosemila, Tasha Manshahar, Noorkhiriah, Feeya Iskandar, Mila Jirin, Syura, Siti Nordiana, Sabhi Saddi, Lan Kristal, Norish Karman, Mawar Rashid, Abby Nadzri, Noorshila Amin, Rina Khan and Zureda.

“We are charging RM600 for a stall and hope to raise about RM145,000.  After deducting the costs of organising the event, we hope to have between RM35,000 and RM40,000 left for charity.

“A big portion of this money will go to Aman Palestin, a Malaysian NGO that donates food, medical supplies and other things that the Palestinians need in their war torn country.

“We also plan to donate some money to charities such as orphanages. These will be selected when we see the total amount we have raised,” he said.

The festival will be held from 10am to 10pm on both days. Admission is free.
