KL shares remain higher

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-afternoon today with the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) adding 2.88 points.

At 3.08pm, the benchmark index stood at 1,845.66 points.

Consumer-linked stocks continued to lift the benchmark index higher, with British American Tobacco, which soared 56 sen to RM69.52, emerged as the top gainer, followed by Hume Industries, which rose 38 sen to RM3.94.

Market breadth was extremely positive as gainers outpaced losers by 581 to 241, while 291 counters were unchanged, 542 untraded and 27 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.89 billion shares worth RM1.31 billion.

Of the active stocks, Dagang Nexchange was half-a-sen higher at 37.5 sen and Berjaya Corporation added 2.5 sen to 51.5 sen.

Among heavyweights, Maybank fell 3.0 sen to RM9.67, Public Bank shed 4.0 sen to RM18.54 and Axiata declined 2.0 sen to RM7.05.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index rose 31.48 points to 12,820.75, FBMT100 Index garnered 24.34 points to 12,452.36, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 55.11 points to 13,283.38.

The FBM 70 rose 46.09 points to 14,056.66, FBM Ace appreciated 30.58 points to 6,574.3 and the Plantation Index improved 22.02 points to 8,537.09.

The Industrial Index advanced 23.22 points to 3,251.42 while the Finance Index fell 27.02 points to 16,764.24.-- Bernama
