KL shares finish higher

KUALA LUMPUR: Upbeat sentiment from Wall Street's overnight gains drove Bursa Malaysia to close higher today, with all indices recording positive movement.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended at an intra-day high of 1,855.15, up 12.37 points, after touching an intra-day low of 1,842.17.

Market breadth was very positive with gainers outpacing losers 663 to 248, while 275 counters were unchanged, 469 untraded and 28 others suspended.

Total volume rose to 2.75 billion shares valued at RM2.4 billion from 1.87 billion shares valued at RM2.15 billion recorded yesterday.

Consumer-related stocks were among the day's top gainers, with British American Tobacco surging 54 sen to RM69.50 and Nestle soaring 50 sen to RM68.50.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank was unchanged at RM9.70, Tenaga Nasional added 26 sen to RM13.36 and Public Bank fell 4.0 sen to RM18.54.

Among active stocks, Censof appreciated 6.0 sen to 61.5 sen, Dagang Nexchange gained 1.0 sen to 38 sen and Berjaya Corporation was 2.0 sen higher at 51 sen.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index appreciated 93.62 points to 12,882.89, the FBMT100 Index rose 89.2 points to 12,517.22, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index surged 118.1 points to 13,346.37.

The FBM 70 advanced 122.43 points to 14,133.01, the FBM Ace improved 42.31 points to 6,586.03, the Finance Index bagged 35.26 points to 16,826.53 and the Industrial Index rose 51.2 points to 3,279.4.

Main Market volume widened to 2.03 billion units valued at RM2.22 billion from yesterday's 1.34 billion units valued at RM1.99 billion.

Turnover on the ACE Market increased to 637.79 million shares worth RM168.54 million from 438.58 million shares worth RM140.97 million recorded on Thursday.

Warrants fell to 77.8 million valued at RM9.4 million from 84.65 million valued at RM10.51 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 171.14 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (233.33 million), construction (62.4 million), trade and services (930.26 million), technology (397.08 million), infrastructure (18.08 million), SPAC (47.89 million), finance (46.37 million), hotels (938,700), properties (100.58 million), plantations (23.52 million), mining (10,600), REITs (8.7 million) and closed/fund (12,400).-- Bernama
