Friends set to collide

FROM friends to foe, that is how Safiq Rahim and Razman Roslan consider themselves to be, at least for one day when they line up against each other in the Malaysia Cup final.

Pahang captain Razman and Safiq, who will lead Darul Ta’zim in the absence of the suspended Aidil Zafuan Radzak, were both teammates at Selangor when they played in the 2008 final.

They also won the AFF Cup as national teammates in 2010 but went their separate ways at the end of the 2012 season.

Come today’s kick-off, friendship will be put to one side as each attempts to lead his team to glory.

“We’ve played many games together before but tomorrow I will forget he is my friend for a while,” said midfielder Safiq, 27, who unlike Razman, has yet to lift the Malaysia Cup trophy.

“We each have our own targets to achieve and we both want to win the Malaysia Cup.”

Razman, whose future is uncertain amidst reports this would be his last game for Pahang, said there will be no quarter given at the National Stadium today.

“As captains, we have our own duties and mine is to help Pahang keep the Malaysia Cup,” said centre-back Razman, 30, at yesterday's pre-final press conference.
