Honda Malaysia recalls more than 15,734 vehicles

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia is recalling over 15,734 vehicles in the country after an airbag exploded in one of its cars, killing a woman, here, in July.

Head of public relations Jordhatt Johan said the Honda models that are affected are Honda City 2003 and 2004 and Honda Jazz 2004.

“We are notifying customers starting from today and over 15,612 units of the Honda City 2003-2004 are being recalled together with another 122 units of the Honda Jazz 2004,” he said yesterday.

Jordhatt said the defects are caused by inappropriate humidity management after the process of filing propellants in the airbags, causing it to explode.

The explosion can send metal shards from the airbags inflator, hurting drivers.

“It can cause abnormal deployment as it is sensitive to temperature and humidity,” he said
