Strong men throng Dataran Merdeka

KUALA LUMPUR: THE international sports competition, Strongman Champions League, is being held until tomorrow at Dataran Merdeka.

The event will see 14 of the world’s strongest men competing for the coveted Strongman Champions League’s World Champion title.

Last year’s champion, Krysztof Radzikowski of Poland, will also be present.

Other competitors include Martin Wildauer of Austria, Eddie Hall of England and Hafthor Julius ‘Thor’ Bjornsson of Iceland.

Malaysia will be represented by gym instructor, Zarol Alfiyan.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib said about 20,000 visitors are expected to attend the event.

“I am glad that Kuala Lumpur has been chosen twice to host the grand final of this world-class event.

“The publicity helped us to showcase the city as a premium tourist destination and a place to host international sports events.

“We are able to showcase our hospitality to the athletes and their crew members.

“A fringe of events such as cultural performances and a Strongman Pop Up bazaar at the piazza of KL City Gallery are held to create a festive ambience,” he said.

The challenges set for the athletes include bus pull, truck pull, tyre flip, car dead-lift, farmers walk and forward hold.

Local superstar Awie and rock band Kristal will be entertaining the crowd tomorrow.

The Strongman Champions League is also supported by the Tourism Ministry.
