Bank Islam co-branding initiative with FAM exceeds goal

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd’s co-branding efforts with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has surpassed its target, raising RM2.35 million since its launch in May last year.

Bank Islam contributes to FAM an annual charge of RM2 per card and 0.3 per cent of every retail purchase transaction made using the card will be added to a special fund.

Bank Islam aims to issue one million cards by the first quarter of next year.

“Bank Islam has issued more than 800,000 Team Harimau Visa debit cards since its launch. It would not be impossible to reach our target of one million cards by the first quarter of next year,” said managing director Datuk Seri Zukri Samat at a media conference after a cheque presentation to FAM, here, yesterday.

The card, offered to Harimau Malaya football fans, has become increasingly popular with the younger market segment, Zukri said.

“We believe that the growth in the number of consumers using debit cards will further promote Malaysia’s move towards a cashless society,” said Visa country manager for Malaysia Ng Kong Boon.

Bank Islam also launched a campaign with FAM called “London’s Callin’!” where 20 Team Harimau Visa Debit Card-i holders will be rewarded with an all-expense-paid trip to London to watch a live English Premier League match.

The campaign will run from December 1 to March 31 2015 and a minimum retail purchase of RM50 is required to be entitled to one contest entry.
