Inter-editorial football tournament

KUALA LUMPUR: Ten media organisations will battle for supremacy at the AmBank/NST Inter-Editorial Football Tournament 2014 tomorrow.

The tournament, now into its 16th edition, will be held at Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s Kilat Club field in Jalan Pantai Baharu here.

The participating teams are New Straits Times, Berita Harian/Harian Metro, Bernama, Astro, Berita Publishing, Utusan Malaysia, TV3, Blu Inc Media, Karangkraf and the Malaysian Press Photographers Association.

While the players show their skills on the football pitch, women members of the media from five teams will be pitted against each other in the AmBank/NST Inter-Media Netball Tournament 2014 in an adjacent field.

Both tournaments are organised by the New Straits Times Editorial Football Club while AmBank Group is its main sponsor and Tenaga Nasional Bhd the venue sponsor.

AmBank Group presented its sponsorship in a ceremony at Balai Berita here.

The group was represented by group corporate communications and marketing senior general manager Syed Anuar Syed Ali and NST by its deputy group editor Rashid Yusof.

Rashid, in thanking the banking group for its continuous support, said the tournament, which began in 1991, was the longest-running football meet for members of the media.

“The standard of the tournament has improved over the years. The infusion of new and talented players has made it more competitive.”

Syed Anuar said AmBank was proud to be associated with the tournament which gave members of the media the chance to enhance ties with one another. Wishing all teams the best, he said though winning would be the ultimate goal of every team, it should not be at the expense of sportsmanship and fair play.
