East coast floods: Road in Setiu collapses, more evacuees in KB

SETIU: Soil erosion has caused part of the road in Kampung Nyatoh to collapse this morning, making it impassable to traffic.

The erosion was the result of continuous heavy rain the past several days.

In KOTA BARU, twenty-more victims were forced to be evacuated today after their homes in Pasir Putih were flooded following heavy rain since Tuesday, bringing the number of evacuaees to 110 people.

A spokesman from Pasir Putih district police station said the victims from five families, were now taking shelter at SK Wakaf Raja relief centre.

"The flood victims, including 10 children ,were from Kampung Tasek and Kampung Gong Keding, both in Pasir Putih," said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, the state National Security Council portal showed that the Golok river in Rantau Panjang continues to increase above its danger mark today while other state assessment points were still below their warning levels.

As of 11am today, the river was measured at 9.14m which is 0.14m above its danger mark of 9m.
