Fun activities await parents, children at Malaysia Islamic Children's Fair

SHAH ALAM: Realising the need to educate parents on the importance of cultivating and nurturing values in children through play, Malaysia Islamic Children's Fair (MICF) is held once again this year to cater to parents who are seeking for alternative ways of educating their children.

MICF chairperson, Dayang Lily Maznah Abang Muas said 'celebrating diversity' was selected as this year's theme which centred around the idea of bringing together a diverse group of audience including those who have children with different abilities (OKU).

She said the event hoped to raise awareness in society on the importance of eliminating discrimination at early age.

"It is indeed the role of parents and educators as well as the society at large to cultivate a healthy upbringing for children to love and respect others regardless of race, religion, and culture differences, said Dayang.

Many exciting activities including archery, flight simulator and bouncy castle await parents and children throughout the three day event at Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) which starts today and ends on Sunday.

There will also be traditional games like congkak, popular children's game loom band, sand play, and face painting apart from exhibitions, talks and demonstrations from at least 20 participating exhibitors.

Other exciting programmes include 'Sahibba Jawi' contest by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, table etiquette talk, sign language lessons, mom and daughter hijab styling contest, chocolate making class, 'cerdik zakat' game, business start-up challenge, Malaysian art activity, healthy menu recipes lessons and young muezzin search," she added.

MICF was first initiated in 2013 by a team of entrepreneurs from different industries after realising the rising need in creating awareness of the importance of cultivating and nurturing values in children through play.

Some 100,000 visitors are expected to attend the fair which attracted more than 80,000 people last year.
