Speak up, urges skipper

CAPTAIN Shukor Adan has urged his teammates to be more vocal during matches in the AFF Cup.

The four-time AFF Cup veteran disclosed that some players are quite shy and do not communicate enough with each other, especially in training.

““Communication, not talent, is the most important thing in football. A team will not be successful if players do not communicate enough during matches,”” said Shukor.

““Players must be vocal. I may be the captain but it does not mean I am the only one who is allowed to give instructions.”

““Teamwork is also important. We are getting there and hopefully, everything will be sorted out before Sunday’’s game.”

The 35-year-old made his AFF Cup debut in 2000 by helping Malaysia finish third followed by podium finishes in 2004 and 2007.

However, Shukor and several seniors were dropped after the team failed to reach the semi-finals in 2008 before the midfielder-cum-defender was recalled recently by national coach Dollah Salleh.

Being the most experienced player in the team, Shukor was tried out as captain in recent friendly matches before Dollah handed him the armband permanently.

The Felda United player will play in the defensive midfielder position when Dollah uses the 4-4-2 formation but he will switch to centre-back when the team use the 5-3-2 formation to defend in their half

““I have been given a role to play and so far I am doing fine,” said Shukor, who is carrying a leg injury.

““Everyone is feeling confident and our game is getting better after each training session. I hope more fans will support us here..”
