Jing Yi crashes

TEE Jing Yi’s impressive run at the Hong Kong Open came to an end at the hands of world champion Carolina Marin of Spain in the quarter-finals yesterday.

Jing Yi, who was making her maiden Super Series quarter-final appearance, was outclassed by Carolina, who only needed 27 minutes to wrap up the match 21-8, 21-17.

A disappointed Jing Yi admitted that she was nowhere near the Spaniard who dominated on court with her fast paced attacks.

“Carolina was just too strong for me and I had no answers.

“She is way faster than me, and I never had the chance to get in the game. She controlled all the way and her attack was very strong,” Jing Yi said.

Jing Yi, who is Malaysia’s No 1 women’s singles, is now hoping to do well at the Axiata Cup and the Purple League which are her remaining tournaments this year.

Jing Yi’s bigger plan is to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiroas the qualification period begins next May. By Fabian Peter
