Loop completes in Jln Yong Shook Lin

PETALING JAYA: THE traffic flow reversal in Jalan Yong Shook Lin, taking place at 12.01am tomorrow, is the finishing touch to the implementation of the controversial one-way loop system here.

The switch to the loop which circles Jalan Utara, Jalan Timur, Jalan Barat and Jalan Sultan is expected to ease traffic flow on these roads.

Deputy mayor Puasa Md Taib recently urged motorists to give the system an adjustment period of at least two weeks.

“After that, we will have a meeting with all stakeholders for their feedback and comments on the system,” he said, when asked if the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) was ready for another round of brickbats.

The loop had drawn strident objections when it was first introduced last month.

The biggest complaint was that it was a hazard, as the conversion from a dual carriageway to one way was confusing.

Puasa said 96 complaints had been received so far.

He said positive comments on the efficiency of the loop were also received but did not furnish Streets with details.

He said the trial would run as scheduled until Jan 12.

Mayor Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad had many times reiterated that it was highly unlikely the RM23 million project would be scrapped.

The new route change is also expected to create a traffic backlog as it cuts down traffic flow from two stretches of Jalan Selangor and limits the traffic flow into the one-way road through a single access. The only access to the road is through the Jalan Sultan/Jalan Yong Shook Lin intersection.

The two current access points through Jalan Selangor which feed the road from the direction of the Assunta roundabout to the Shell Station in Jalan Yong Shook Lin and the stretch from the roundabout near Padang Timur to the turning at Jalan Yong Shook beyond Pizza Hut will no longer be open. As of press time, the council was to meet with the police and consultants to discuss the project.
