LATELY, we have been reading much about the atrocities being committed in Cameron Highlands once consi- dered a “crown jewel” in Malaysia and a must-visit destination for Malaysians and tourists alike.
With the hill resort boasting a cool climate, one does not need to go overseas to enjoy such an environment.
What has become of her, our dear Ms Cameron Highlands? She has had to endure all the abuses through the years.
Imagine the emotional and physical pain, the shame of being stripped naked, her beautiful green dress being torn to pieces by her perpetrators.
As parents, we would be aghast at such a heinous act against our daughter. It’s akin to putting her in harm’s way. Yet we, as “guardians”, are willing to close one eye and sacrifice her for a small token (in cash or kind).
It’s like a father prostituting his own daughter, his own flesh and blood, for a small sum of money and living off her earnings like a pimp.
Yes, she cried and she fought back. But her cries have fallen on deaf ears and we, her guardians, have chosen to look the other way.
In her present state, she is hardly alive, a pathetic sight, a living dead, cold and naked, with sores and bruises all over her body.
How she must have wished that the Earth will open up like an earthquake to swallow up her nakedness and her shame!
God help her even as we weep and pray that one day she will be in harmony with nature again.
