KL shares improve mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) improved at mid-morning today on continued buying demand for selected blue chips and key heavyweights.

At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) increased 4.96 points to 1,843.52, after fluctuating between 1,843.52 and 1,836.79.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index rose 19.60 points to 12,682.29, the FBMT100 Index was 25.13 points higher at 12,363.69 but the FBM 70 went down by 3.77 points to 13,671.88, the FBM Emas Syariah Index eased 0.21 points to 13,258.11 and the FBM Ace declined 11.27 points to 6,522.64.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index rose 50.37 points to 16,336.86, the Industrial Index gained 2.51 points to 3,336.85 while the Plantation Index inched down 11.56 points to 8,346.92.

Market breadth was easier, with decliners leading advancers 294 to 239, while 266 counters were unchanged, 903 untraded and 26 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 687 million shares worth RM301.71 million.

Of the heavyweights, DiGi went up one sen to RM6.4, TNB rose 16 sen to RM14.52 and both KLCC Prop and IHH were flat at RM6.74 and RM4.94, respectively.

Among actives, Minetech Resources was flat at 14.5 sen, Malayan United added three sen to 26 sen but NOVA and Hubline each inched up one sen to 20 sen and five sen, respectively.-- Bernama
