Keep away from extremism, Youth told

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth members were reminded to focus on good deeds and not delve into extremism.

Vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said people who join groups like the Islamic State will be remembered for the wrong reasons.

"This was why the government is taking this issue seriously by tabling the White Paper in Parliament today," he said at the PWTC.

Shafie said this when presenting educational grants totalling RM1.3 million from Yayasan Pelajaran Mara to 37 Umno Youth divisions.

"This programme for instance, allows youth to help students receive additional tuition classes in their areas.

"That to me is the real 'jihad' and not what the IS is doing which does not subscribe to what Islam is all about," he said.
