Turkey done the Malaysian way

KUALA LUMPUR: GATHER friends and family at Makan Kitchen restaurant in DoubleTree by Hilton to celebrate Christmas together while indulging in the scrumptious festive spread prepared by the restaurant’s chefs.

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without feasting on turkey so this festive season, diners will be in for a treat as the restaurant is offering its Hot Legs, which are hot, juicy turkey legs made with love.

Makan Kitchen is giving it a twist up by infusing local flavours into its turkey dishes, offering guests a unique Malaysian Christmas dining experience.

Makan Kitchen sous chef Mohamed Zulkarnaen said guests would be able to indulge in three turkey leg dishes inspired by Malay, Chinese and Indian flavours.

“The Truly Malay braised turkey leg rendang with galangal and coconut gravy is incorporated with spices and cooked slowly to ensure the meat is tender and juicy.”

Another dish not to be missed is the Chinese-style roasted turkey leg with star anise lacquer which has a slightly sweet taste that blends well with a variety of Chinese herbs used to make the dish.

Diners with a preference for chicken tandoori must try the Indian-inspired tandoori turkey leg with mint chutney as the meat marinated with spices is delicious when dipped in the mint chutney.

“It takes about an hour-and-a-half to cook the turkey legs as we want to ensure the flavours and texture of the meat satisfy our guests.

“We wanted to focus on what is best locally — this is why we infused the turkey legs with Malaysian flavours.

“Diners can even enjoy the turkey legs with a plate of rice or bread, or simply eat it on its own, which is the traditional way,” said chef Zulkarnaen who has been in the profession for 27 years.

In addition to the turkey meals, the festive spread include fresh seafood on crushed ice, sushi and sashimi selection, as well as a Christmas and New Year’s eve carving station with oven-roasted turkey and slow-cooked lamb.
