Police laud new law against terror

PUTRAJAYA: Police have welcomed the new anti-terror law that would be drafted soon in a bid to tackle the threats of militants in the country.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the new law is suitable to combat the rising threat of militants.

He said this new law could also safeguard Malaysians and public security from terrorism threats and to arrest Malaysians implicated in terror groups.

Khalid said many countries have drafted anti-terror laws to combat terrorism and it was apt for Malaysia to come up with such a law as it would help the police to tackle such threats.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had tabled the White Paper on tackling the Islamic State threat at the parliament yesterday.

Aside from tha,t the White Paper also stressed on the need to strengthen existing laws such as the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act and Prevention of Crime Act and the Penal Code to curb the threats.
