5 Besut locals begin 20,000km adventure across Australia

BESUT: Five locals from Besut today began their 20,000 km journey to cross the continent of Australia for 35 days via the Australian Trans-Continent Adventure Programme.

The group is led by teacher Mohd Zaharani Omar, 55, while the other members are teacher Mohd Isa Zakaria, medical officer Dr Ahmad Fadli Mohd Burhanuddin, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) student Mohamad Ariff Halimi and contractor Mohd Halim Omar.

Mohd Zaharani said they departed from the KL International Airport (KLIA) to Perth, Australia at about 1 am today by a Malaysia Airlines flight.

“Also at the KLIA to wish us a safe trip was Besut Umno divisional chief Nawi Mohamad, who is also Hulu Besut state assemblyman and Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Plantations and Commodities Committee chairman,” he said when contacted by Bernama here.

They are expected to return to the federal capital on Dec 31.

He said they were expected to cross Australia on foot and by four-wheel-drive vehicles to several main cities along the way.

They would also spend the nights at camps and at mosques throughout the journey to Adelaide, Darwin, Alice Springs, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Tasmania. – BERNAMA
