Delegates saddened by rudeness of certain quarters at Umno assembly

KUALA LUMPUR: The rudeness and insult against leaders and the country by certain quarters saddened delegates at the 2014 Umno general assembly as such a behaviour does not reflect the culture of Malaysians.

A representative from Kelantan, Rahimah Mahamad, when seconding the motion on religion and education at the assembly today, said the attitude of the present society had changed.

There is no more civility and morality among some quarters in the society, said the Machang Wanita Umno leader.

She said these quarters not only stepped on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s pictures, but also changed the lyrics of the national anthem and flew the national flag upside-down.

“I am really saddened by all these, and in Kelantan, they made an effigy of the state Umno liaison chairman, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, and then whipped it. What wrong has Mustapa done in bringing various projects to Kelantan?” she added.

She also touched on the use of the Malay language, which she said, was becoming less, with even the government having the tendency to use English acronyms.

“For example, RTC or the Rural Transformation Centre for Pusat Transformasi Luar Bandar and not PTD, and PWTC or Putra World Trade Centre for Pusat Dagangan Dunia Putra, instead of PDDP.

“Hence, Wanita proposes that this trend to be stopped to uphold the Malay language and the official language in the country,” she added. - Bernama
