Button waits on McLaren future

LONDON: McLaren officials met on Thursday to discuss team arrangements for the 2015 Formula One season, but a spokesperson said that no decision had yet been taken about their driver line-up.

Spaniard Fernando Alonso’s return after five years at Ferrari has already been confirmed, and McLaren must choose between Kevin Magnussen and former world champion Jenson Button to partner him.

Group chief executive officer Ron Dennis chaired a board meeting to discuss the matter on Thursday, but a spokesperson said: “No decision has been taken with regard to our 2015 driver line-up.”

British media reports suggest Danish driver Magnussen will get the nod, leaving Britain’s Button — world champion with Brawn in 2009 — to turn his hand to sportscar racing.

Speaking on the eve of Thursday’s board meeting, Button said he felt “really comfortable” despite the uncertainty about his future.

McLaren were expected to announce who will partner Alonso late yesterday.
