Help slow to arrive in Kg Dalam

PONTIAN: DESPITE being only 65 kilometres from the the state capital, Kampung Dalam is sorely lacking in basic infrastructure and facilities.

The residents said the village badly needed a multipurpose hall, a drainage system upgrade and road repairs, among other things.

The lack of a community hall means that the village roads have to be closed for tents to be erected during events, to the inconvenience of road users.

Mukim Pontian penghulu Ali Muhamad said villagers helped to move and set up the tents.

The tents, he said, would shake and become muddy and waterlogged whenever it stormed or rained.

“We have to move the tents from one place to another whenever there is an event.

“Despite that, we have managed to make it work, thanks to the cooperation of villagers.

The events and the guests or visitors, however, suffered from the consequence of the lack of a proper venue.

“For the sake of the villagers, I hope the authorities will build a hall in the village so that it will be easier for them to organise community activities,” he said.

Kampung Dalam Kawasan 2 Umno branch chief Norhayon Abd Azim said the village roads and drainage system were also due for an upgrade.

He said many roads in Kampung Dalam had been damaged by soil movement and were a threat to motorists.

Norhayon said many of the existing drains were built with concrete materials which were now damaged, resulting in interrupted water flow and stagnant water, which could breed Aedes mosquitoes.

“We hope the authorities will make the necessary repairs as soon as possible,” he said.
