Malaysia-South Korea to expand second wave of Look East Policy

SEOUL: Malaysia and Korea have agreed to expand on the Second Wave of the Look East Policy by focusing on human capital development.

Special emphasis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, would be given to strategic sectors ranging from automotive to applied reasearch and development.

On Malaysia helming Asean next year, Najib said Malaysia would work closely with its Asean colleagues to help prepare businesses for the creation of the Asean Economic Community (AEC).

Through Asean, negotiations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) were underway.

"Together, the AEC and RCEP will form a strong platform for the expansion of trade and investment," he told a group of business leaders including senior executives of South Korean trade and commerce associations as well as giant brands such as Lotte, Samsung and LG.
