Perak Sultan heads list of 102 recipients of Selangor honours

SHAH ALAM: Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, heads the list of 102 recipients who will be conferred awards and medals in conjunction with the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's 69th birthday today.

Sultan Nazrin will be receiving the state's highest honour, the Darjah Kerabat Selangor Yang Amat Dihormati, at an investiture ceremony at Istana Alam Shah, Klang, this morning.

Sultan Sharafuddin's own brother, Tengku Abd Samad Shah, will be conferred the Darjah Kerabat Selangor Yang Amat Dihormati II award.

Army chief General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) chief executive officer Tan Sri Datuk Shamsul Azhar Abbas were selected to receive the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS), which carries the title Datuk Seri.

The sole recipient of the Darjah Kebesaran Dato' Setia - Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SSIS), which carries the title Datuk Setia, is Lembaga Tabung Haji group managing director and chief executive officer Tan Sri Datuk Ismee Ismail.

Two state executive councillors, Iskandar Abdul Samad and Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, who were retained as excos after the recent Menteri Besar crisis was resolved, have been chosen to receive the Darjah Kebesaran - Dato Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS), which carries the title Datuk for men and Datin for the male recipients' wives.

Since Pakatan Rakyat took over governance of Selangor in 2008, Sultan Sharafuddin has only awarded one exco with an honorific title - Datuk Dr Hasan Mohamed Ali, from Pas, in 2011, who received the DPMS award.

This year, besides Iskandar and Dr Ahmad Yunus, nine others will receive the same DPMS award, 13 people will receive the Darjah Kebesaran Dato' - Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (DSIS), which carries the title Datuk for men and Datin Paduka for women.

Another 14 people will receive the Darjah Kebesaran - Setia Mahkota Selangor (SMS), 14 will get the Darjah Kebesaran Setia - Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SIS), 20 will be awarded the Darjah Kebesaran Ahli Mahkota Selangor (AMS), 18 will be conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Ahli - Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (AIS) and seven will be given the Bintang Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (BPC) medal, all of which do not carry any honorific titles.

Conspicuously absent from the honours list is newly instated Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, who was only sworn in as MB less than three months ago on Sept 23.

Former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim also did not receive any awards from Sultan Sharafuddin in 2008, the year he was sworn in as MB.

He was only conferred the SPMS award, which carries the title Datuk Seri, the next year in Dec 2009.
