Ringgit ends lower against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit ended lower against the US dollar today on lack of buying interest for the local unit.

At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2230/2255 from 3.2125/2145 on Tuesday.

A dealer said the ringgit also moved in tandem with most Asian emerging currencies on increased demand for US dollars to meet crude oil import payments due to the Iraq crisis.

Meanwhile, the ringgit was also traded lower against other major currencies.

The ringgit depreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.5772/5794 from Tuesday's 2.5729/5749 and fell against the yen to 3.1617/1647 from 3.1514/1536 yesterday.

The local unit decreased against the British pound to 5.4704/4756 from 5.4548/4595 yesterday and eased against the euro to 4.3855/3902 from 4.3761/3791.-- Bernama
