Nafiizwan sails through

TOP seed Nafiizwan Adnan led three other Malaysians into the quarter-finals of the Royal Lake Club Open in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

  Seeking his first PSA Tour title of the year, national No 2 Nafiizwan registered an 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 win over 2014 Malaysia Games winner Sanjay Singh Chal in the first round.

  Nafiizwan will next face Hong Kong’s Yip Tsz Fung, who ousted wildcard and national junior Ng Eain Yow 11-4, 11-4, 11-8.

  Ivan Yuen and Asyraf Azan set up a mouth watering last-eight showdown after coming through tough opening round matches.

  National No 3 Ivan overcame Pakistan’s Amaad Fareed 11-8, 11-9, 11-4 while Asyraf, playing in Malaysia for the first time since his ejection from the national squad last year, defeated Tayyeb Islam of Pakistan 12-10, 15-13, 1-11, 11-5.

  Addeen Idrakie Bahtiar, the 2012 Malaysia Games champion, was the fourth local player through after knocking out sixth seed Ammar Altamimi of Kuwait 11-8, 11-6, 11-6.

  He next meets second seed Zahed Mohamed of Egypt, who beat Ahmad Al Saraj of Jordan 11-5, 11-8, 11-3.

  The other quarter-final is between third seed Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu of India, who outlasted 2007 Sea Games winner Elvinn Keo 12-10, 3-11, 11-9, 11-5, and Pakistan’s Farhan Zaman, who came through with an 11-7, 11-8, 17-15 win over compatriot Khawaja Adil Maqbool. By Devinder Singh
